A day in Clyde

We spend a day working in Clyde.

Our Air B&B unit is cute and very comfortable. The lady running it has been a cyclist and is friendly and enjoys talking about riding. We discuss our ride so far and our plans. She does not like our plan to ride up the Kawarau gorge to get from Cromwell to Queenstown, it's 20 kilometers of busy narrow road with limited shoulders, not good for us. We let ourselves be convinced and organise a shuttle to take us to the start of Gibbston valley.

There are lots of cycling references in our unit including these coasters, they have a cute picture related to cycling the rail trail, encased in glass, so they are very hardwearing. They would make a great memento of our trip - something we would use.

In the evening we go into town for dinner. The strong afternoon wind is back again. The town is tidy and pretty - but very quiet. I guess that comes with being a tourist town - in the off season things can be pretty dead.

We treat ourselves to a fancy dinner at Oliver's restaurant. Yesterday was our wedding anniversary and this is to celebrate :-)

After dinner we explore a little, going down to the river and then along to the dam. One of the spillways is in use! I don't think I've ever seen this before :-)

We found the old railway station - the rail trail should end here it's much nicer than the yard where it ends now. Also a cheery tree with lots of very small, but bright red fruit.
